Maurice Blackburn have provided the below information for posting to you all. Please contact them before emailing me for information. I can’t help you join, I’ll just be able to point you in the right direction.

Bonsoy Class Action
Maurice Blackburn is conducting the Bonsoy Class Action in the Supreme Court of Victoria seeking compensation for people from around Australia who have suffered an injury from consuming Bonsoy milk.
The proposed claim
Bonsoy soy milk is distributed throughout Australia by Spiral Foods Pty Ltd. Prior to December 2009, Bonsoy was sold widely in most supermarkets as well as health food shops and cafes.
At that time Bonsoy was enriched with a kombu extract which is a type of seaweed and very rich in iodine. Iodine is necessary for thyroid function, but is only required in very small amounts. Excess amounts of iodine can affect the thyroid and cause illness which may be severe.
The recall
In late December 2009, Spiral Products Pty Ltd voluntarily withdrew Bonsoy from the Australian market when it was discovered that it contained extremely high levels of iodine which could lead to serious health problems. The level of iodine in one glass of Bonsoy was found to be around 7 times the safe upper limit for adults. Drinking 30mg of Bonsoy a day for adults, or 5mg for a child, resulted in consumption of unsafe levels of iodine.
The recall occurred after people suffered serious health problems caused by Bonsoy consumption including hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. These conditions of the thyroid can result in the following symptoms:
- Extreme fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Heart palpitations and in severe cases heart attacks
- Sudden and severe weight loss or weight gain
- Loss of muscle tone and function
- Pain in the muscles
- Swelling of limbs
- Anxiety
- Depression and mental disturbance
- Hair loss
- Menstrual irregularities in women
- Miscarriage
- Intolerance to cold or heat
- Skin rashes and peeling
- Eye conditions including permanent eyesight damage
- Obviously enlarged thyroid gland
These symptoms may have a gradual or sudden onset and continue for months or years while excess iodine is consumed.
Who is affected by the Class Action?
If successful, the Bonsoy class action will benefit people who suffered thyroid conditions and injury due to the consumption of Bonsoy milk from at least 2003 up to the end of 2009.
Where can I obtain further information?
Maurice Blackburn is conducting the Bonsoy Class Action on a “no win – no charge” basis. This means that if you retain Maurice Blackburn you will not need to pay any legal costs or disbursements unless we recover compensation for you.
If you are interested in knowing more about the Bonsoy Class Action or if you wish to consider retaining Maurice Blackburn to protect your rights, please telephone us on 03 9605 2865 or email bonsoy – at -mauriceblackburn.com.au. You can also visit the Maurice Blackburn Bonsoy Class Action page.

Hemant (my husband) and I started Bonsoy milk probably 18 months ago as both felt we were intolerant to milk products, soon after both developed thyroid problems, mine settled after we realised and stopped bonsoy, but Hemant’s have continued. Even the endocrinologist commented it was unusual that Hemant had hyperthyroidism in two peaks. His symptoms coincide with the ones mentioned above. Could you please keep us updated. What does it mean by joining the class action.
Thanks
Juthika

Lisa, if you drank Bonsoy between 2003 and 2009, then yes.
So, it sounds like it. I’d contact Maurice Blackburn.

I was suffering for years…………..all the symptoms that fit into hyperthyroidism I can tick. They became worse over the years. I thought last year I was going to die. I have suffered with daily head aches, then migraines, sore throats to days that I couldn’t swallow. Last year was the worse time health wise. My doctor called me into the surgery and said that my cholesterol was incredibly high nearly 7 when I was a constant 3. He scarred me to take Oroxin as my arteries were closing and I had chest pains. I’m a fit 50 year old. I exercise daily and was so fatigued.I would take a lot of herbs to keep my illness at bay. My auto-immune was getting worse. I thought it was part and parcel of auto-immune problems. My clients were not aware of how I felt and how I had to push myself to ensure I didn’t put weight on and look healthy for my job. You can ask my family to understand what I went through. Many years of hell.
I was told in 2005-6 that my thyroid was out yet kept on using Bonsoy. Not personally pin pointing that it was the catalyst to my health issues.
It even caused my IBS, anal bleeding last year………..and now since the Oroxine I have stopped menstruating……….within 2 months of taking the tablets but I needed to take the tablets to get my energy level and normal feeling back.
I now have 50- 100mg of Oroxine daily. Yesterday I had a soy milk coffee as I went back to milk months ago. Yesterday and today my throat is inflamed and energy is down, I have had a head ache since yesterday and had to take head ache tablets to relieve to pain…………….as well as Olive Leaf, Echinecea and andrographris. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel better as I haven’t felt like this in months. The Oroxine has been a god sent but I may not have needed it if I hadn’t used Bonsoy.
Please contact me to discuss………………
hi, in the last for years I have drank many cartons of bonsoy. during that time I have been to the doctors many times for feeling of weaknes, and a real problem climing stairs and walking. I have been xrayed scanned and tested for m.s and nothing shows up. in the last 8 months or so I have a lump cum up in my throat were the two shoulder blades meet. when i went to the doc they ultra sounded it as she thought it to be thyroiditus. when they ultra sounded it the bload was pumping to fast over the thyroid so she then did blood test which was neg. since then my husband has developed the same weakness (I made both our coffee and milkshakes on the bonsoy).trouble doing stairs unable to undo jars and can’t walk withput severe pain in feet and legs. we were both discussing last week that this is rediculus it must be something we are both eating or we are alergick to each other. plus we both have had a frog in our throat for nearly two years.and I loos my voice regularly.(not good for a singer).if it is from the milk how do i fix the problems as the doctors just think i’m mad. stress, fybromialgia, polymialgia, menapouse but nothing helps. I wont even go to the doc now as I feel like a winger. just want to feel well again. hubby is haveing big trouble working geting up and down from loader is a big problem
I used Bon Soy from 2006-2007 prior to needing to undergo a hemi-thyroidectomy for nodule removal. In 2008 I read some articles on possible soy connection to thyroid problems, mentioned it to my specialist who said he hadn’t heard anything about it. I made a decision to discontinue using Bon Soy and any other soy milk and switched to Rice Milk instead due to my dairy intolerance. I will be contacting Maurice Blackburn.
Debbie, you need to see an endocrinologist and get tests for iodine poisoning and you need to mention Bonsoy intake.
Tim
Fay, I can’t really discuss this with you. If you’ve been drinking Bonsoy, you need to see a GP and probably an endocrinologist to discuss your illness with respect to any Bonsoy intake.
Tim
I have been drinking Bonsoy since 2002. I developed hyperthyroidism after my second pregnancy in 2006 and lost so much weight despite eating LOADS of food! Also experienced dizziness, heart palpitations and the sweats.
I am loathe to become involved in some massive law suit but would be happy to testify if needed. Of course, I have kept no receipts for the Bonsoy over the years! How are they dealing with that?
Nellie
Hi Nellie, I don’t know how they will deal with it.
I imagine most people will swear in a statement they consumed the product – many will have eyewitnesses.
Tim
Oh man, this shit is so hard to believe. Why is it that all these “victims” come from the same doctor’s practice? Have you ever tasted Bonsoy? It tastes like shit now because all these people made them change their recipe. Hope everyone has fun losing their case. HAHAHA BONSOY FTW.
Kombu is the best tasting seaweed, have some tasty ramen and you will see, nom nom. I think all the retard are just cow milk representatives that want to get rid of my happiness.
I can’t help but wonder why the Japanese people are all feeling nice and healthy from their diets of seeweed and other tasties? Oh is it just because Australians suck too many balls? Sydney, go ahead and stop living please.
Bonbon, this is warning #1 for you.
Trolling.
I see you have also posted another trolling comment, so you’re now banned.
Cheers,
Tim
Hello Tim. We contacted Maurice Blackburn and received all the information. Have completed the form and sent back. Funny, we kept two full unopened Bonsoy cartons so have the evidence in the milk!! I know this is no proof of actually consuming the milk but there are so many people giving evidence that they drank it. Look forward to the outcome.
Hi Geraldine, don’t throw them out!
All evidence has been destroyed, so keep them, they may be needed!
Tim
I also have a carton
Hi, a bit late with the email, but I also suffered heart palpations, increased blood pressure and was agitated for a whole year on bonsoy. I used it in shakes. My work collegues couldn’t work out why I was so grumpy all the time. I then heard about Millson the Bulldogs footballer and things started to click. I mentioned to my GP the iodine in bonsoy and worked out the tyroid can affect metabolism and so I decided to stop taking bon soy. The heart palps stopped over night. But fatigue , pressure and grumpiness continued for a while.
This is noted with my GP. I have contacted Maurice Blackburn. Scarry stuff….
